The Department of Anthropology and Sociology at the University of South Dakota invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cultural Anthropology, to begin in August 2022.
The position would carry a 3/3 load that includes an introductory
course in cultural anthropology, upper-level courses appropriate to
the candidate’s academic strengths, and shared responsibility for a
course in socio-cultural theory. A successful candidate will offer
courses that contribute to interdisciplinary programs that may
include International Studies, Religious Studies, Sustainability,
University Honors, Linguistics, Museum Studies, Native Studies,
and/or Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies. Other duties will
include advising and mentoring students and service to the campus
and discipline.
An active research agenda, including publications in the field, is
expected. A successful candidate should engage in ethnographic
fieldwork, should have a commitment to involving undergraduates in
their research, and should be committed to pursuing external
funding opportunities from both governmental and private sources.
Geographic and topical specializations are open.
Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in anthropology by
the time of appointment. Preference will be given to applicants
with interdisciplinary teaching experience and demonstrated success
in research.

Anthropology and Sociology offers the BA and BS degrees in
Anthropology and Sociology, minors in Anthropology, Sociology,
Archaeology, and Geography, and certificates in Forensic
Anthropology, Geospatial Analysis, and Health and Culture. Our
courses support the General Education curriculum of the University,
as well as multiple interdisciplinary programs across the campus.
