The Department of Art at Carthage College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Animation, Imaging (Photography), and Studio Art Foundations to begin in Fall 2022. An M.F.A. and an active exhibition record are required for this position. Reflecting the mission of the Department of Art, applicants will share a dedication to the service of a diverse and equitable community, literacy in a contemporary visual culture, critical accomplishment in art production and exhibition, and a commitment to the development of innovative curricular models supporting studio art foundations, the Department of Art, and the Photography, Film and New Media program.

The hired applicant will teach a combination of animation, photography, and studio art foundations courses and will play a crucial role in the continued development of the Photography, Film and New Media Program, as well as provide enrichment for the new Gaming Major.

The Assistant Professor position is a full-time renewable contract appointment and a typical yearly course load is three courses in each fall and spring semester plus one January-term course. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student advising, critique and mentoring, attending faculty and committee meetings, service to the college and community and one's own creative work and scholarship.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching in a studio art foundations program, experience in additional new media such as video, performance and digital, and experience in darkroom photography. Preference will also be given to applicants with knowledge in studio safety, including EPA, OSHA, and DNR standards. In addition, candidates with interests in developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues, that conduct scholarship in areas related to diversity and that have been successful working with a diverse body of students are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply:

Candidates should submit an application as a single PDF document including a detailed letter summarizing how your qualifications address the expectations of the position, a current curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, an artist statement, contact information of three professional references, a link to artist portfolio and a link to images of student art work.
