Hood College invites applications for a full-time Director of Financial Aid.  The Director of Financial Aid provides strategic leadership to the Office of Financial Aid. This position requires extensive knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies; fiscal integrity and stewardship; strong management skills—both project and personnel; and the ability to oversee all programs—Title IV, state, institutional and private assistance programs while maintaining compliance. 


  • We seek a candidate who values diversity, equity and inclusion in all that they do. Candidates must have strong organizational skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and disciplines.
  • Understanding of federal, state, institutional and private sources of financial aid.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations, particularly Title IV programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, prospective students, Hood faculty and staff, and local community members.

Education and/or Experience 

Bachelor degree and ten years of progressively responsible experience at a supervisory level within college or university financial aid is required. A Master’s degree is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Experience supervising full-time employees and managing budgets.
  • A strong quantitative and systems orientation.
  • The ability to plan, organize and implement a comprehensive financial aid process.
  • Proven ability in budget development and supervision.
  • Experience with and the ability to: interpret federal, state, and College regulations and policies to determine eligibility for need-based federal, state, and institutional financial aid; adhere to institutional budget limits on spending institutional financial aid dollars by tracking dollars; ability to lead annual audits of the financial aid office ensuring compliance; and submit required, accurate reporting.
  • Experience supervising staff members; successfully build a team that is cross-trained and able to verify, award, and process financial aid.
  • Experience managing Direct Lending, alternative education loan processing, Work-Study, State Programs, Private Funding, Restricted Funds, Pell Grant; etc.
  • Strong communication skills that include the ability to present information in a public manner as well as one-on-one meetings.
  • Excellent written skills are also expected.
