Job Summary:

The Dean of Student Affairs is seeking to hire a part-time Assistant Legal Counsel.

The Assistant Legal Counsel meets with and advises UIC students regarding their legal concerns and rights in various areas of the law such as landlord/tenant, criminal, family and contract law.

  • Assists the Director of Student Legal Services in the day-to-day operations of the office
  • Meets with and consults with students on legal matters
  • Examines abstracts of title, contracts, wills, and other legal documents for legal sufficiency and form
  • Analyzes legal questions and prepares briefs of authorities thereon
  • Draws legal documents
  • Develops standardized legal forms and procedures
  • Construe’s statutes, rules, and regulations
  • Acts on behalf of the Director of Student Legal Services
  • Reviews and initiates correspondence
  • Participates in outreach initiatives
  • Conducts workshops and presentations on legal issues impacting the campus community
  • Gives administrative supervision to assigned personnel as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


  1. Juris Doctor Degree
  2. Admission to the Bar in Illinois
  3. Three years of experience in the practice of law.

Note: Experience gained during a judicial clerkship may be used to qualify under #3.
