Department Summary
The University of Oregon Intercollegiate Athletic Department's primary purpose is to provide a unique opportunity for student-athletes to be developed, tested, and encouraged to reach their maximum potential in every aspect of their lives. The department has approximately 250 administrative & classified employees, hosts over 600,000 spectators annually, and represents the University of Oregon in athletic competition with other universities & colleges.
Position Summary
The Director of Marketing and Fan Experience (Director) is responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive strategic plans for the Oregon Athletics Department. This position will enhance marketing, promotional, fan experience, and sales efforts while fostering innovative and collaborative efforts to engage the students, staff, alumni, supporters, and prospective fans. The Director will develop and grow campus partnerships with an emphasis on reaching the student population. The Director will also oversee and serve as the primary point of contact for Allen Hall Advertising and The Pit Crew student groups. This work will require the Director to sometimes work outside of regular office hours during athletic events, including some work on evenings and weekends based on the game and events schedule.
The Director will report directly to the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing, Sales & Fan Experience and oversee the Marketing Assistant and student interns.
This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the Oregon Athletics Department, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, Pac-12 conference, and the NCAA
Minimum Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Management,
Communications, Public Relations, or Sports Management
- Three years of experience within an intercollegiate athletics
department or professional sports organization
- One year of supervisory experience
Professional Competencies - Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and other
related software
- Solid administrative skills and the ability to motivate staff
and volunteers to achieve department goals.
- Ability to strategize, prioritize and multi-task to meet goals
and deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills; excellent verbal and written
communication skills, including proofreading, editing, and content
creation skills.
- High motivation with a capacity for hard work within the
context of an intensely goal-oriented environment.
- Ability to manage a set budget as assigned by the Assistant
Athletics Director of Marketing, Sales & Fan Experience
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree in marketing or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in athletic marketing and promotions
environment at the Division I level.
- Ability to interact comfortably with those individuals and
constituency groups (student-athletes, alumni, coaches, parents,
etc) crucial to the advancement of the University of Oregon
Department Of Athletics.
- Candidates with experience serving the needs of diverse
populations are strongly desired.
