Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno seeks a collaborative and user-centered Business Librarian. This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. Reporting to the Director of Research and Instructional Services, the ideal candidate will serve as liaison librarian to the College of Business, as well as the Department of Criminal Justice and the Judicial Studies program. This librarian will provide research assistance in areas such as accounting, business administration, criminal justice, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, information systems, marketing, and management. This position is part of the Libraries' liaison librarian program that emphasizes engaging information literacy instruction, in-depth research support for both faculty and students, and active engagement in campus outreach activities to promote the Libraries and build partnerships. The Libraries value excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong service orientation, a willingness to experiment with new methods and technologies, an openness to change and a collaborative approach to meeting user needs. This faculty position requires scholarly activity and publication, and service on professional and university committees.
Major Responsibilities - Provide in-depth research consultations regarding specialized
business resources, such as those involving investment and
financial data, company and industry information, market research,
and economic indicators.
- Design and conduct curriculum-integrated instructional sessions
in the liaison areas both in person and online, create and maintain
LibGuides, and create effective online instructional materials such
as LMS modules and online tutorials.
- Proactively collaborate with faculty to meet teaching and
research objectives, and support interdisciplinary initiatives
across academic units that require expertise in business
research.
- Oversee library collections in the liaison areas, respond to
faculty and student requests for library materials, and collaborate
with other library departments on collections-related
issues.
- Maintain familiarity with recent trends in scholarly
communications related to the liaison areas, and answer basic
questions regarding these issues, such as those concerning
copyright and journal publication.
- Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse
communities and cultures.
- Participate in and extend the Research and Instructional
Services Department's outreach, assessment, and instructional
initiatives, including research help services.
Required qualifications - ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent
- Two (2) years of experience in a library or instruction setting
or an advanced degree in one of the liaison areas
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in
library services
Preferred qualifications: - Background in and/or familiarity with sources, issues, and
trends in business research
- Experience collaborating with faculty in a liaison librarian
capacity
- Experience planning and delivering innovative library services
and/or information literacy instruction
- Experience with tools that support online learning such as
LibGuides and Canvas
Compensation and Benefits
Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $60,100.
Competitive benefits package includes 24 vacation days per year and tuition benefits for self and family. No state income tax.
