Department Statement
The Colgate Student Health Center provides convenient, high quality and cost effective care to a diverse group of students. Functioning as the primary care provider, the Student Health Center offers routine medical care, women’s and men’s health, and mental health services, while also promoting wellness through health education. The Student Health Center frequently partners with the university Counseling Center and Shaw Wellness Institute to provide a holistic approach to health and wellness.

Specifically, the Staff Nurse assists university physician, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in providing health care and health information to 3000 students. Performs nursing assessments, simple laboratory procedures, draws blood and administers injections. Counsels and educates students in preventative and self care. Areas of focus include responsibility for:
  • providing accurate and effective triage and nursing diagnoses;
  • appropriately following protocol with respect to documentation and communicating student health information to impacted stakeholders;
  • as assigned, may be accountable for efficient and effective operation of specific clinics (e.g. allergy shot clinic, travel clinics, satellite clinic).
This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority ( CSA ), in accordance with the federal statutory requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act. CSAs are required to and responsible for reporting allegations of crimes they receive from students and employees to the Campus Safety Department. Professional Experience/ Qualifications
- A minimum of one year of experience as an RN in a healthcare setting responsible for direct patient care.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment and experience with EMR software systems, the development of policies and procedures, and quality improvement (QI) programs. Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in an office environment working with student populations is preferred. Education
