Summary: This search is designed to fill six (6) total tenure-line positions in Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies. Appointments may be joined with other Brooks College units, but primary appointments will serve the following areas: African & African American Studies, Digital Studies, Environmental & Sustainability Studies, and Integrative, Religious, & Intercultural Studies.

As part of its abiding commitment to values of inclusion and equity, Brooks College is conducting a college-wide tenure-line search designed to increase curricular coverage of areas related to diversity and inclusion, promote inclusive teaching strategies, and support faculty retention.  

Successful candidates will have teaching and scholarly interests that span needs/priorities in two or more academic programs housed within Brooks College; increase curricular coverage of areas related to diversity and inclusion; and contribute to college and university goals with respect to access, equity, and inclusive campus climate. Candidates selected through this diversity cluster hire will be given start-up funds to support their work in diversity and inclusion with additional funding designated to support a collaborative effort among these new hires in support of DEI pedagogy and inclusive climate within Brooks College and university-wide.

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • A completed terminal degree in a relevant humanities, interdisciplinary, science, or social science field by August 2022.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in an area that directly serves two or more of the following programs: African & African American Studies, Digital Studies, Environmental & Sustainability Studies, and Integrative, Religious, & Intercultural Studies. Examples of areas of particular need include: interdisciplinary research methods; broad knowledge of environmental and sustainability studies; social movements in relation to change with a particular focus on marginalized communities; social impact assessment; an interdisciplinary approach to digital studies with a focus on data preservation and sustainability, humanistic data design and visualization, social justice and digital technologies; sexuality and/or LGBTQ studies; collaborative communication; diversity and intercultural communication; immigration and migration studies; or African diaspora studies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, and/or service as evidenced by past experience in one or more of those areas.
  • Evidence of an active research or creative agenda.
  • Experience working with and understanding of underrepresented and diverse populations, including non-traditional learners.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues from outside one’s primary field of expertise/training.
  • Interest in teaching in online, hybrid, and face-to-face environments.
  • Clear description of how inclusion, equity, social justice, and diversity issues have been or will be brought into courses.
  • Commitment to teaching general education courses as well as teaching in one’s area(s) of expertise.
  • Show willingness to teach at all levels of the program, or programs, from introductory to capstone courses.
