Job Summary:

This position works closely with WNPRC Grants Managers and with WNPRC Principal Investigators(PIs) to support sponsored research through the pre-award activities for all federal and non-federal funded programs including all sub-awards and subcontracts. The current funding portfolio includes approximately $40 million from federal, state, and private agencies. The incumbent will facilitate the development of funding strategies, promote opportunities for external support, develop interdisciplinary and consortium research projects and represent the Center in negotiations with extramural sponsors. This position requires the ability to maintain outstanding communication and interaction with the UW-Madison's OVCRGE and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP), as well as with the various other schools, colleges, and home departments of WNPRC faculty.

Qualifications:

Required:
- At least two years of experience in research and grant activities, and familiarity with granting organizational policies and procedures.
- Proven administrative capabilities; knowledge of research and sponsored programs; and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word and with database management tools, and have the ability to develop complex spreadsheets and grants-related database reports.
- Significant degree of organization, excellent interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

Preferred:
- UW experience is a plus, as is familiarity with cost accounting principles.
- Experience with proposal preparation and electronic submission process, and knowledge of award set-up process.
- Prior experience navigating UW-Madison electronic research administration tools (i.e., WISPER, WISER, Subcontract Portal, etc.).

The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) is one of seven federally supported National Primate Research Centers and the only one in the midwest. The WNPRC's mission is to increase the understanding of basic primate biology and to improve human health and quality of life through research. To accomplish this, the WNPRC helps discover treatments, preventions and cures for human disease; generates new knowledge of primate biology, from the molecular and whole animal levels to the understanding of primate ecosystems; facilitates research progress by providing expertise, resources and training to scientists worldwide; and collects primate information and disseminates to the research community and to the public.
