As a member of the Vice President of Student Development’s leadership team, participates in strategic and organizational planning processes. The Dean will proactively pursue strategies that will provide students with clear pathways to their academic goals and support division efforts that lead students to completion.  Responsible with the Vice President for linking all aspects of Student Success to the instructional areas of the college.

 

Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities:

 

  • Design, implement, supervise, and evaluate all aspects of the Student Success area in compliance with federal and state regulations. These areas include Advisement, Disability Support Services, Transfer, Career Services, College Orientation and First Year Experience, and Student Support Services, such as the Educational Opportunity Fund grant program.
  • Lead the development, coordination and implementation of Guided Pathways for student development.
  • Formulate K-12 partnerships that increase readiness of incoming students and ease their transition to Union County College.
  • Implement orientation defined as every contact with students between initial application through the end of first term of enrollment;
  • Early alert & intervention system, designed to identify students experiencing difficulty, efficiently and effectively connect them with appropriate resources, and reduce the numbers of students placed on academic probation/suspension.
  • Faculty staff development aligned with implementation of the above activities;
  • Leads the planning, budget development, budget management, and personnel evaluation for the Student Success area.
  • Leads the development of information systems that provide relevant information to students and community (i.e., advising, transfer, and career information, etc.).
  • Hires, trains, develops, supervises, and evaluates all Student Success leadership and staff.
  • Coordinates the preparation of College, State and federal reports in collaboration with appropriate staff and offices.
  • Creates a high-performance culture by setting clear objectives and expectations; targets and analyzes team member’s accountability and giving appropriate feedback, including actively managing poor performers.
  • Serves on College Governance Committees representing Student Development.
  • Represents the college at regional, state and national conferences and/or meetings.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Education:

 

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Development, and Student Personnel or related program from an accredited institutional required.

 

Preferred Experience:

 

  • A minimum of six full years of college level full time experience in student affairs or higher education administration, predominately three years of providing leadership in the related areas of responsibilities.
  • Prior supervisory experience in student services required.

Terms of Employment:

 

Full Time.  Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required.  Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college.  Mandatory overtime is required throughout the year, especially at peak times.  Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

 

  • This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

 

  • Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

 

  • Some travel required.
