Summary

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement ADSE is responsible for providing leadership for the student engagement team which encompasses: community engagement; interfaith program development; student activities; student organization support and major student-based campus programs. Working in close partnership with the Residence Life team, the work in the area of student engagement will support the foundation of a student's four-year journey at W&J. The ADSE will develop a broad range of programming initiatives and experiences that foster holistic student development with a strong emphasis on connection to the academic programs of the College. The ADSE must be a strong communicator, work strategically using best practices toward the education of the whole student. THE ADSE should exhibit a commitment to foster a diverse and inclusive community and a culture of thoughtful, open, and respectful discourse and debate; be an agent of positive community change; be a strong manager; make and communicate difficult decisions effectively; and be energetic, possess sound judgment, and exhibit joy in working with students.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and lead the Student Engagement Coordinator Team of two-three professional staff members.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Residence Life and Assistant Dean & Director to develop and guide the community specific programmatic experience and help guide the coordinator team towards those goals.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Dean and Director and other Student Life staff members on the orientation program and further develop the experience by working collaboratively with other stakeholders.
  • Work with the student engagement team to provide robust, developmental, and fun experiences for students.
  • Work collaboratively with campus stakeholders to bolster student engagement initiatives.
  • Manage, and continue to enhance, student support programs such as the Charles West Fellows program.
  • Take lead on coordinating Welcome Week, Finals Study Breaks, Jay Term programming and Senior Week events.
  • Serves on College-wide committees as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • 4 to 6 years of professional experience
  • Experience supervising professional staff
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Strong residential and community programming experience
  • Passionate about working with College students and supporting developmental experiences.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, technical, and written communication skills with the ability to work closely with a diverse group of students.
  • Proven experience in event planning, social media planning and the development of presentations and publications is helpful.
