Performs various payroll functions including account reconciliation, reporting, deductions and garnishments and ensures compliance with federal, state, and university guidelines.

  1. Prepare a variety of payroll related documents, process payroll deductions, garnishments, retirement plans, overpayments and account reconciliation.
  2. Assist with reconciliation of retirement contribution and deferral plans, helps with coordination of corrections between the component campuses.
  3. Research discrepancies of payroll information to ensure accuracy and adherence to university procedure as well as state and federal regulations.
  4. Reconcile payroll account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with university established guidelines in reference to garnishments, corrections, off cycle payments, and leave accruals.
  5. Administers the leave tracking process for employees to ensure accuracy and advises benefits staff of any issues
  6. Researches and advises benefit staff concerning the accounting/payroll treatment of complex Family Medical Leave transactions (i.e., sick leave/vacation leave balance corrections).
  7. Will perform internal leave accruals audits on the corrections made by the payroll coordinator.
  8. May produce payroll reports for distribution to component campuses, payroll accountant team, and university departments when needed.
  9. Ensures data integrity of employee and payroll data in states human resources management systems, and with the retirement plan system.
  10. Coordinates with HR payroll coordinators to ensure proper payment of employees in routine and complex cases. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Bachelors and 3 years experience.

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Accounting degree or related field a plus.

  • Intermediate to advance Excel skills.

  • Previous higher education experience in payroll a plus.

  • PeopleSoft experience a plus.
