Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Health Education and Prevention Coordinator is part of a dynamic team that supports and encourages a student-centered culture focused on learning and student transformation. This position advocates for and leads efforts to develop health and wellness practice that promote personal development and student success. The Health Education and Prevention Coordinator engages students, campus leadership and partners in developing campus-wide education, resources, and programming centered on wellness, self-care, grit and resilience and mindfulness in order to support students in making the most of their college careers. The Health Education and Prevention Coordinator nurtures a culture of wellbeing in all aspects of student life, responding to diverse and changing needs of the student body while demonstrating cultural competence and a commitment to equity, inclusion and to identifying and removing barriers to access. This is a non-clinical, live-on position designed to aid in the university's efforts to promote health and wellbeing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate programs, presentations, and trainings to promote a thriving student population centered around student overall wellness, including but not limited to alcohol and other drug education, sexual misconduct prevention, healthy relationships, etc
  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate the Peer Wellness Educator Program and team; Coordinate Peer Wellness Educator fall training in August
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students team to provide follow up support and resources for students who have challenges with academic, physical, mental health, wellness, or their general wellbeing.
  • Serve in the area coordinator on-call rotation, responsible for 24-hour conflict and crisis management for entire on campus residence community
  • Design and implement training opportunities and programming initiative with resident advisors in conjunction with the Salve Residence Life Res Ed curriculum
  • Partner with stakeholders and collaborate with other offices across campus (i.e. counseling services/health services, etc.) to support wellness initiatives and participate
  • in university-wide yield programs and events, which may include Open Houses, Connections Day, and New Student Orientation
  • Oversight of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee, and other committees as relevant
  • Management of EverFI and other online learning modules assigned to students
  • Provide ongoing efforts related to Mental Health First Aid, Title IX, and bystander intervention workshops and/or trainings; offering both passive and in-person programming initiatives
  • Serve as a member of the CARE team and assist in the coordination or referrals of support services for students
  • Utilize Advocate online management system to submit, collect, evaluate and record all details pertaining to a student's case
  • Serve as a student conduct hearing officer, and assist in informal resolutions for students involved with the conduct process
  • Assist with student leave of absences process, as needed
  • Oversee the social media platforms for the Salve wellness account
  • Serve as a liaison to community/local agencies that support prevention efforts (i.e. Newport and Middletown Prevention Coalitions, etc.)
  • Serve as a liaison with colleagues in Office of Safety & Security, Office of Student Engagement, and Sodexo as appropriate for wellness related programs

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A Master's degree in college student personnel administration, higher education administration, counseling, or a similar field with progressively responsible leadership experience in Student Affairs for approximately 2-3 years is preferred.
  • Experience with crisis management is also preferred.
  • A strong record of student advocacy and productive and collaborative working relationships across campus are required.
  • A demonstrated understanding of program evaluation and assessment is required.
  • Familiarity with current technology including use of social media; evidence of superior interpersonal and communication skills; and creating a student-centered culture that supports high standards of excellence for all members of the campus community will be important considerations in the Dean of Students team.
  • The successful candidate will also possess an understanding of and commitment to Salve Regina's Mercy, Catholic tradition and mission.
  • Familiarity with the student development theories and a commitment to social justice.
