Operational Data Store / Cognos BI Administrator



Schedule Information: M-F 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Hours per Week: 37.5

Duties of Position: Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the College’s Operational Data Store (ODS). Responsiblefor administering, configuring, tuning, and maintaining Cognos BI in non-prod and Production environments.

Performs complex technical activities in the administration of the Operational Data Store (ODS) and Data Warehouse (DW)

Utilizes ODI (Oracle Data Integrator) to create new ODS Mappings based on business requirements.

Designs, builds, and supports the components of data warehouse (DW), such as ETL processes, databases, reports, and reporting environments.

Performs capacity planning, supporting, troubleshooting, and ETL performance modification.

Schedules and monitors ODS/DW loads and refreshes from the transactional systems.

Studies and understands the campus’ business processes and applications, including their effect on data and reporting, and applies the knowledge gained in designing data warehouses and reports.

Administers, configures, tunes, and maintains Cognos BI in non-prod and Production environments.

Performs daily Cognos activities, such as report/package/cube deployments, managing users access, monitoring schedules, and monitoring overall system.

Works with Cognos developers, Ellucian or IBM support, database administrators, and other IT operations resources to troubleshoot issues and ensure the system is working properly.

Manages the architecture, capacity, security, and system performance optimization (both Cognos and Windows), making technical recommendations as needed.

Monitors server resource utilization and tune Cognos processes for efficiency.

Works closely with the report developers to manage deployments and security throughout the environment.

Plans and coordinates outages with development team, database team, and other stakeholders.

Generates and maintains system administration documentation, including configuration specifications and rationale for specifications in environment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements : Bachelor’s degree preferred in information technology or equivalent experience.

Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of 1+ year of Cognos BI Administration.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of expert proficiency in developing and maintaining reports using Cognos.
  • Experience with Oracle DB, and PL/SQL
  • Experience using Cognos Report Studio and Query Studio
  • Experience with SQL, stored procedures, views, and triggers.
  • Knowledge and experience using ETL tools is a plus
  • Experience in installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Cognos BI environment
  • Experience in engagement with multiple management levels across technical users and business units.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining technical documentation, process documentation
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
