Job Description

The Financial Reporting Specialist will report to the Assistant Director of Financial Reporting and Research Operations and will be part of the college financial, administration and research team. This position will serve as the financial manager for multiple centralized units within the Pamplin College of Business. This position will create and distribute monthly financial reports and prepare annual budget preparation to each area. This position will assist with sponsored research funding as well as grant administration. This position will prepare and analyze financial reports, track data, as well as manipulate data from various systems. This position will also manage payout reports, budget transfers, reconcile summer and winter pay, update and manage several HR financial reports and other financial reports. This position will also complete the college scholarship spending plan and utilization report. Other responsibilities will include creating ad hoc financial reports, researching and solving problems and other types of financial analysis and report generation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business or related field and significant work experience; experience providing high level fiscal support in a professional office environment; proficient in excel including pivot tables and formulas, have the ability to think critically, and a high level of attention to detail, ability to work with complex datasets, create formulas, and import and export data; ability to analyze data and to prepare related reports; knowledge of budget and financial processes with the ability to problem solve, analyze, cross reference, and reconcile.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Business or related field; experience in higher education financial management, specifically in academic and/or research; previous experience supporting senior executives; experience with Banner, banner warehouse, data commons, MicroStrategy, and a variety of other financial reporting systems; experience with research and sponsored funding sources; demonstrated knowledge of Virginia Tech policies and procedures as it relates to budget and finance.
