Under general supervision creates systems for the handling of program participant data, analysis of participant data for program purposes as well as for reporting requirements to the funding agency, and the creation of methods to improve the efficiency of program operations. Recruits low-income and first-generation individuals and assist them with locating and enrolling into a post-secondary education program.

This is a Grant Funded position. Essential Duties Summary
  • Provides counseling and guidance to people looking for the perfect career, whether they are just entering the workforce or making a switch, also assists participants with finding academic or vocational training programs.
  • Gives assessment tests to participants to determine several factors, such as personality types, skills, aspirations, activities, and educational interests. Gathers information from these assessments allows specialists to figure out which career paths are best suited to the participants.
  • Counsels and offers resources to participants to support overcoming education barriers including overseeing and encouraging college or vocational training and career planning for program participants.
  • Travels to different agencies whether it be non-profits, educational centers, jails, and counties that surround Harris County. Also provides suggestions for potential agency partnerships and may serve as a liaison.
  • Oversees and records participant activities per their service requests. Makes timely contact with participants to determine, develop and execute quality improvements.
  • Connects individuals with potential educational, vocational, and training they may need.
  • Identifies and recruits low-income and first-generation participants.
  • Creates partnerships with local community agencies.
  • Provides academic and financial advising to participants.
  • Plans, develops and implements curriculum for college preparation, applying for financial aid, career planning, goal setting, and study skills workshops.
  • Follows up with participants to ensure that educational goals are being met and to offer additional assistance.
  • Implements the Educational Opportunity Center grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

1.0 Hiring Range $41,976.00 - $52,470.00 Education
Bachelor’s degree or higher. Required Licensing/Certification
Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Work Experience
One (1) to three (3) years of related experience. Additional consideration will be given to prior TRIO participants. Working/Environmental Conditions
  • Limited standing and/or walking.

  • May require routine travel.
