Department Summary
The UO Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers undergraduate major and minor degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, and graduate degrees at the masters and PhD level.

Our undergraduate program provides training for students planning careers in the chemical and biological sciences and also for those in biology, health-related disciplines, earth sciences, secondary education, business, journalism, and law. Undergraduate research and other educational activities outside the traditional classroom are essential components of these majors.

Our graduate program recognizes the importance of diversity and breadth in graduate education and continues to respond to the shifts and changes in career opportunities available to our graduates. Research at the University of Oregon is designed to keep student researchers at the forefront of chemical science.

A unique strength of our program is its interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching. Chemical scientists may be interested in the Institute of Molecular Biology, the Institute of Theoretical Science, the Materials Science Institute, the Oregon Center for Optics, and the programs in cell biology and in molecular synthesis, structure, and dynamics.
Position Summary
The Accounting Technician uses bookkeeping skills to record, examine, and reconcile
expenditure and revenue transactions and records to maintain accountability in accordance
with statutory requirements, university policy, and general accounting principles and
procedures. The Technician will also perform related clerical work.

This position is the department's point person for the interpretation and application of laws, rules, and regulations related to payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, and travel and moving functions. The complex nature of this position requires the ability and skill to track transactions and/or errors through an account from initiation to resolution.

There is potential for this position to be fully or partially remote.
Minimum Requirements
  • 12 quarter hours (8 semester hours) of Accounting courses AND
  • An Associates Degree in Accounting; OR
  • One year of experience that includes entering, compiling, and/or reporting financial information; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines
  • Proficiency with computer-based software including Word, Excel, and Windows and the ability to learn University electronic processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment
    Preferred Qualifications
  • University experience interpreting and enforcing policy, rules, and regulations
  • Experience processing and reporting on payroll, accounts payable, travel, and moving activities.
  • Experience working with Banner Information System and Cognos
