Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership Policy

The Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Counseling (EPLC) at Texas Tech University invites applications from innovative and thoughtful colleagues to join our Educational Leadership (EDLD) Policy program as a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor engaged in issues impacting Latinx and/or rural communities, and who will not only seek outside research funding and provide excellent teaching, but also engage in service to the department, university, and the community. The position will start September 1, 2022, and appointments are for the nine-month academic year.

Educational Leadership Policy Program

Our Educational Leadership (EDLD) Policy program combines the expertise, rigor, research, and professional network of a Tier 1 research university degree program, while also serving working professionals. It is this blend of content and delivery that makes EDLD Policy at Texas Tech University a premier program for those seeking the highest quality in educational policy and leadership preparation. Our program’s excellence is shown through our trademark online PhD in EDLD Policy coupled with the active engagement of faculty and students in education policy research and policy-to-practice projects, strategic educational policy development, school-based initiatives in high need communities, and opportunities for active internships and projects around the state, nation, and world. The successful candidate will have the background, expertise and commitment to contribute to each of these areas and to the outward facing orientation of the college.

The ideal EDLD Policy candidate will have expertise and experience in education policy, educational leadership, and educational organizations; mixed and quantitative methodologies; and working with high need populations around issues of educational equity and access. Key expectations of this position are to (1) secure federal and state funding related to Latinx and/or rural education equity; (2) have an active scholarly research agenda focused on issues impacting Latinx communities and/or rural communities; (3) mentor doctoral students researching educational leadership and policy, many of whom are working in Latinx and/or rural communities; and (4) engage Latinx and/or rural communities in mutually-beneficial educational leadership and policy-focused collaborations.

Candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education faculty with experience working in culturally and linguistically diverse settings are strongly encouraged to apply. In addition, candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include:

• Conduct research that contributes to the improvement of policy, practice, and the field
• Apply for and manage external funding to support leadership for educational reform research that results in the improvement of education policy and practice
• Supervise graduate student research and practice (includes serving on and chairing doctoral dissertations)
• Recruit, advise, and mentor master’s and doctoral students
• Teach distance-delivered graduate Educational Leadership courses in EDLD masters and doctoral level cohort program in areas of expertise
• Work collaboratively with EDLD faculty in College of Education and program-level grant-supported school improvement and education policy projects
• Contribute to the advancement of Education Policy specialization and EDLD program goals through service
• Partner with schools and/or agencies to ensure meaningful collaborative research, teaching, and practice

Required qualifications include:

• Completed doctorate from a major accredited university in Educational Policy, Educational Leadership, or a related field by August 2022
• Demonstrated potential for or record of peer-reviewed publications and scholarship,
• Demonstrated expertise in mixed and/or quantitative methodologies
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentorship at the graduate level
• Demonstrated commitment to serve diverse, high-need populations and address issues of equity and access

Preferred qualifications include:

• Focus on Latinx communities and/or rural education
• Experience conducting research to inform education policy at the district, state, or national level
• Demonstrated track-record and/or potential for obtaining external funding
• Demonstrated potential for college-level technology-integrated/online/blended teaching
• Demonstrated ability and/or potential to partner with education policy agencies, organizations, nonprofits, etc.
• Track record of doctoral advising and committee chairing
