Faculty Position in High Voltage High Power Area Permanent, Tenure-Track Faculty Position In the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Florida A&M University - Florida State University College of Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in cryogenic dielectrics, high voltage engineering, electric transportation, high power density superconducting devices, and closely related electrical engineering areas of research, in the city of Tallahassee, Florida. We are seeking faculty candidates for an assistant professor position, however, exceptional candidates at higher ranks will be considered.

Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline, and demonstrate the documented potential for outstanding research in their field of expertise. Successful candidates are expected to develop research programs that are internationally recognized with significant and sustained funding, incorporate interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers across campus, and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in engineering education. Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and supervising undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers are expected. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the barriers preventing full participation of members from historically underrepresented and marginalized student communities in higher education.

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the unique combination of two outstanding universities with overlapping but distinct missions - the Nation's top Historically Black College/University with a Tier-1 research university. As such, we provide exceptional research and entrepreneurship-driven education to one of the most diverse student populations in the US. Faculties are employed by one of the two partner universities but hold joint faculty privileges at both universities.

The ECE Department has a dynamic group of 29 faculty members, 100+ graduate students, ~400 undergraduate students, and annual research expenditures exceeding $5M. The Department has outstanding research facilities housed within the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) in the areas of electrical and computer engineering. The Department and CAPS have a collaborative and collegial work environment and a strong dedication to diversity and excellence in research and education. Potential applicants seeking more information are encouraged to visit our websites at https://www.eng.famu.fsu.edu/ece and https://caps.fsu.edu/.

Applicants should submit the following in a single PDF file to ElectricalEngineeringSearch@eng.famu.fsu.edu:
  • A cover letter
  • A full curriculum vitae
  • A 2-page research statement including interests and plans
  • A 1-page teaching statement including plans and philosophy
  • A statement on diversity and inclusion plans and experiences
  • Up to four (4) selected publications for review
  • The names and contact information of four potential references
  • An Equal Employment Opportunity Survey for Faculty Applicants

Applications will be reviewed beginning on November 1, 2021. Acceptance and review of applications will continue until the position is filled. The appointment is expected to begin in August 2022. Any questions about the position should be directed to Dr. Hui Li, Search Committee Chair, at li@eng.famu.fsu.edu. Additional information about both universities and the department may be found at http://www.eng.famu.fsu.edu.
