Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The mission of the Abrons Student Health Center is to provide student centered affordable, quality health and preventive services to the students of UNCW . The Student Health Center provides comprehensive medical services, a retail pharmacy, health education, and intervention services. The Student Health Center staff work collaboratively to best help students stay healthy and make healthy decisions while at UNCW .

As a part of the Student Health Center, the Hundley Health Education Center serves as the campus resource for information on a variety of health and wellness topics, including alcohol and other drugs, nutrition, sexual health, sleep, and stress. They provide services and educational programming to increase students’ knowledge and commitment to personal health and well-being. The office also provides educational programs for the campus conduct system and coordinates the collegiate recovery community.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Coordinator of Peer Education is part of a team working to create a comprehensive focus on health and well-being for our students. This team is responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision, and retention of the Peer Educators for the Hundley Health Education Center. This position will oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs that are presented to the campus community. This position will also be available to other health center staff as well as on-campus partners for consultation and education surrounding health and wellness issues.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

Master’s degree in Health Education, Public or Community Health, or related field is preferred

CHES or MCHES certification

Current CPR certification

Current working knowledge of alcohol, tobacco and other drug trends, issues and research that directly affect the college-aged population

Current working knowledge of current health issues affecting college students

Must have experience working with peer educators and delivering and developing educational programs on a variety of health-related issues

Detail oriented and able to manage multiple priorities at once

Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, families, and local partners, with a focus on confidentiality
