The Department of Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Education offers a variety of opportunities for caring and dedicated undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students to pursue initial certification as inclusive education, early childhood or elementary education teachers as well as an endorsement in Teacher of Students with Disabilities (special education). In addition, the department offers graduate programs that provide advanced study in curriculum and teaching, including the M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership, and the M.A. in Special Education program. The Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant program is also offered for students interested in pursuing post-master’s educational diagnostician certification. The department is committed to fostering student growth as instructional leaders who have a developmental perspective, cooperative disposition, and reflective orientation and are committed to the principles of access, success, and equity for all learners.
Description:
The College of Education is searching for a highly qualified and experienced inclusive educational professional at the assistant professor level with experiences in inclusive education at the elementary (K-6) level to engage in collaborative equity-based research with faculty and initiate research projects for external funding. The candidate will teach courses in the Bachelor of Arts in Education, Inclusive Education (3+1) program (Elementary Specialization) which is housed on Rowan’s campus, as well as at the Rowan College of Burlington (RCBC) and Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ, Gloucester County) campuses. The successful candidate will participate in service initiatives, particularly new program implementation and initiatives catered to a growing and diverse region. The candidate will have experience mentoring and working with diverse students with a research and teaching philosophy focused on equity and social justice and guided by a commitment to diversity, cultural responsiveness, and constructivism. Scholarship and teaching should be grounded in a strong philosophy focused on inclusive education as it relates to teaching all students with an emphasis on P-12 learners with identified disabilities. Other areas of expertise may include: Assistive, instructional, and accessible technology (preferred); Universal Design for Learning; elementary content (e.g., ELA, science, social studies, math); Disability Studies; and/or additional middle school content certifications. This is a full-time, tenure-track position.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in teacher education,
inclusive education, elementary education or a closely related
field from an accredited institution of higher education at the
time of appointment;
- Meets state licensure requirements for both elementary
education (K-6) and Special Education (Teacher of Students with
Disabilities);
- A minimum of 3 years of successful teaching in diverse
inclusive elementary settings;
- Demonstrates a strong potential for excellence in research,
teaching, and service in areas related to social justice, equity,
and inclusion;
- Strong understanding of various education systems such as
public and private education centers, as well as public preschool
and K-6 education programs
- Demonstrates ability and effectiveness in communication,
interpersonal, and leadership skills;
- Demonstrates a commitment to culturally responsive and
differentiated instruction, as well as collaboration, collegiality,
and respect for all people;
- Demonstrates a commitment to working with multiple
stakeholders, P-12 schools, community partners, and
underrepresented groups of children;
- Commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues at Rowan
University, as well as at Rowan College of South Jersey –
Gloucester County and Rowan College of Burlington County; and
- A teaching/learning philosophy consistent with the mission of
the College of Education that includes promoting inclusive change
in schools through a lens of social justice.
- Holds expertise in assistive, instructional, and accessible
technologies (highly preferred);
- Experience with higher education teaching in multiple formats,
including online, hybrid, face-to-face, and supervision of teacher
candidates
- Advocacy related to access, success, and equity issues in
education
- Familiarity with program recognition and the accreditation
standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator
Preparation (CAEP);
- Experience with multiple forms of assessment and the evaluation
of practitioners, particularly Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for
Teaching and edTPA.
