About HDFS at UGA : The Department of Human Development and Family Science provides leadership in the field via cutting edge research, pedagogy, and service. We are an interdisciplinary program focusing on individual, relationship, and family development within diverse ecological contexts. Faculty research interests include infancy and childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, adult development and aging, parenting and caregiving, interpersonal relationships, health and biobehavioral processes, diversity and culture, and contexts of human development. We have a vibrant program with over 481 undergraduate majors, 48 graduate students, and 20 faculty operating in a collegial and supportive environment. Faculty in the department collaborate with numerous programs and institutions across campus including the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research, Center for Family Research, Bio-Imaging Research Center, Institute on Human Development and Disability, Institute of Gerontology, McPhaul Child Development Center, and UGA Cooperative Extension. The Department of Human Development and Family Science ( HDFS ) at the University of Georgia is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Human Development and Family Science with a focus on Lifespan Development to begin August 2022. The department is hoping to hire an individual who will build on and complement existing departmental strengths and extend departmental expertise to a wider range of the lifespan, with a preferred focus on either a) infancy and early childhood or b) middle and older adulthood.

The successful candidate will collaborate and contribute to an established curriculum in HDFS at both graduate and undergraduate levels; develop and maintain a rigorous, nationally-recognized research program in developmental science using advanced analytical strategies; secure funding from external sources and publish in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets; and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in human development and/or research methods in HDFS . The successful candidate will show clear and convincing evidence of, or clear potential for, securing external research funding. Research can be focused on developmental processes throughout the life course or during either infancy/early childhood or middle/older adulthood. Within these developmental periods all aspects of development will be considered, including (but not limited to) socio-emotional, cognitive, and biological/health outcomes. Individuals with expertise in marginalized and/or underrepresented communities are especially encouraged to apply. In addition, competitive candidates will have a background that includes successful teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Ideally, the candidate would have the ability to teach graduate level courses in quantitative methods (e.g., multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, longitudinal analysis).

Our preference is for candidates with expertise in advanced quantitative methods for studying developmental processes. This includes modeling continuity and change across developmental stages and life events, as well as making connections between individual development and important social contexts (e.g., families, communities, and socio-cultural contexts).
