Position Summary: The Dean is responsible for the quality and effectiveness of the academic programs within the School, as well as decisions related to budgetary matters, faculty recruitment, faculty research, AACSB accreditation, resource and facility utilization.

The Dean is the spokesperson for business education on campus and in the region, and will be expected to lead in the maintenance and implementation of high quality academic programs resulting in enrollment growth; inspire collaboration across the campus on instructional and research projects; maintain and develop productive partnerships with business, industry, and community leaders; collaborate with advancement and other university leadership to pursue private and grant support for the school; expand external funding from contracts to deliver non-credit education and training of business professionals and leaders; collaborate with other deans to advance joint initiatives; and provide leadership in improving student retention and success through innovations that enhance advising, teaching, and the placement of students. The Dean will have the opportunity to lead the School in advancing academic excellence through diversity and inclusion; and the Dean is expected to embrace this opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain alignment with AACSB accreditation requirements;
  • Develop and implement the school’s strategic plan, implement the University strategic plan;
  • Promote student success, retention, persistence, and timely degree completion and ensure that graduates are competitive within the workforce;
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators from schools and programs across campus to ensure efficient use of resources and identify joint programming opportunities;
  • Provide oversight for graduate degree programs such as the MBA, non- traditional programs, accelerated bachelors, and study abroad programs;
  • Identify and implement enrollment growth strategies for programs within the school;
  • Develop and grow new academic programs and/or alternative delivery modalities;
  • Work with an ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse campus and community; and demonstrate a sensitivity to the needs of all students and faculty;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to faculty and staff professional growth and development;
  • Develop and implement evaluation and review systems for faculty, courses, and programs;
  • Engage in collaborative decision making using effective communication skills with the ability to listen, consult, and reach consensus;
  • Demonstrate a willingness to engage in the areas of fundraising and external relationship building to connect donors and community partners with philanthropic opportunities available in the school;
  • Regularly engage regional business leaders and organizations to promote academic programs and create co/extra-curricular opportunities, including internships and job placements for students;
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs or the President.

Experience:
Leading candidates will possess:

  • An earned doctorate from an AACSB accredited institution and a record of teaching, scholarly achievement, service, and other qualifications that merit appointment as Professor in one of the school's disciplines.
  • At least seven years' experience as a Higher Education leader at the rank of associate professor, with at least five years at the chair, associate dean, or dean level with a successful record of academic administrative leadership, including management of fiscal and personnel resources.
  • Experience with AACSB International accreditation, a comprehensive understanding of AACSB accreditation standards, requirements, and strategies to maintain accreditation, and a general understanding of institutional accreditation by a regional accrediting body.

Knowledge
Knowledge of:

  • Familiarity with academic policies and procedures of private universities.
  • Familiarity with higher education budgeting and scheduling processes.
  • Clear understanding of assessment processes and the ability to conduct needs studies in an institutional framework.
  • Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current software programs.
  • Knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within higher education administration.

  • calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume.
  • apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
