Position Summary

This position advises and supports students in one of our UWL colleges in career planning and exploration. Our goal is to help students learn lifelong career development and career search skills and achieve their desired first-destinations upon graduation from UWL . This position assists and collaborates with undergraduate students, graduate students, alumni, faculty, and organization and business leaders.

Description of College / Department / Program / Division / Unit

Mission: The Academic Advising Center and Career Services is a team of educators who advise, encourage, challenge, and support students in their academic planning and career development. We are committed to continuous improvement and innovation in services and programming. We seek to empower students to pursue the knowledge and experience necessary to make informed academic and career decisions congruent with their values and identity, leading to success at UWL and beyond.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field required by start date.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in using office software packages, email, and student record systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with college students on academic and career related concerns.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Ability to prioritize and utilize good time management practices
  • Ability to gather and synthesize information from a variety of sources.

Miscellaneous Information

The person in this position will:
  • Track student contact and utilization of services utilizing EAB Navigate
  • Participate in individual and departmental goal setting and professional development opportunities
  • Participate in regular department and division meetings and collaborate with faculty, staff, employer and community partners.
  • Work effectively with diverse populations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Responsibility Statement

Career Programming

Duties to Support Responsibility
  • Administer full range of career programming and services for undergraduate and graduate students and alumni associated with specific majors in one of the colleges at UWL . Assist students and alumni with individual career development and internship/ job search needs through in-person or virtual appointments, emails, and telephone calls.
  • Assist with career programming and services for undergraduate and graduate students and alumni in other high demand areas.
  • Present career related topics through workshops, class presentations, and presentations to student organizations.
  • Assist in the collection of student first-destination data
  • Review and approve employers and jobs for the online job posting board.
  • Assist in administration of other office services including on-campus recruiting, career events, and programming
  • Initiate and maintain effective working relationships with employers; respond to employer inquiries.
  • Develop, coordinate, and assess programming or events targeted to students in specific majors within one of the colleges at UWL
  • Administer and interpret career development assessments/ inventories
  • Consult with deans, academic department chairs, faculty, academic advisors on curriculum and programs as they related to employment trends, Career Services programs, internship sites, goals and objectives, and the needs of students.
