Manages communications activities to promote the advancement of a major university program or center through the planning and coordination of its publications and media relations.

  1. Designs and coordinates publications for the program, including brochures, newsletters, annual reports and othermarketing and promotional materials.
  2. Provides leadership and coordination of the department's education and outreach activities, including thedevelopment or partnerships with other departments and vendors and operational support including but not limitedto cyclical signature key events and targeted strategic opportunities.
  3. Manages the design and update of program web sites.
  4. Coordinates the procurement and management of graphic design, printing and other publication-related services.
  5. Writes and disseminates news and press releases for the program.
  6. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with external media organizations, as well as theuniversity's media relations department.
  7. Manages advertising, marketing and publications for promotional events and other special programs.
  8. Participates in the strategic planning process related to marketing and promotion of the program.
  9. Writes and edits articles, speeches, and other communication projects as assigned.
  10. Prepares analyses and reports for management use.
  11. Performs other job-related duties as required.


Qualifications :

Bachelors and 3 years experience.

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

Additional information:

Auxiliary Services manages the contracts and operations for dining/food services, the UH Campus Store, snack and beverage vending and pouring rights, and retail leasing. The Communications and Outreach Manager for Auxiliary Services will provide leadership in developing strategies and processes in support of these operations.

Functions include developing and managing web content; managing social media channels; writing and disseminating communication on behalf of the executive director and auxiliary services programs; creating and implementing outreach opportunities for auxiliary programs; managing special events; overseeing the creation of promotional and marketing materials, content, and opportunities; creating presentations; and developing and implementing strategies that build customer loyalty, program awareness, and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent writing skills; the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure with tight deadlines; be innovative, creative, and self motivated; and be a strategic thinker with meticulous attention to detail.

This is a new position, reporting directly to the executive director of auxiliary services.

Previous experience in auxiliary services a plus

Previous higher education experience with contract vendor programs preferred

Strong communications, website development/management, graphics and publication experience, including social media a plus
