Natural Resource Economist
Location: Moscow

Pay Range: $55,000 - $56,000 annually

Position Summary:
This position is a joint research position with the University of Idaho (UI) and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) responsible for technical leadership for all phases of economic activities related to all NRCS and UI programs and land uses. This position will contribute to and support management decisions in the identification of critical resource concerns; provide leadership and coordinate activities within the state for integrating application of economic principles and evaluation techniques into interdisciplinary conservation planning activities; perform outreach to landowners on behalf of NRCS and UI by integrating market and non-market factors into public and private landowner planning; and maintain working relationships with other federal and state agencies, private groups and others engaged in or interested in natural resource activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Economics or related field; a Master’s degree and two additional years of experience (four total) may be substituted for a Ph.D.
- Two years professional experience in economic analysis of natural resource markets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Grant writing experience with proven record of acquiring externally funded grants.
- Knowledge and abilities to analyze cost data to determine the monetary effects of resource management systems.
- Knowledge and ability to develop and communicate state-of-the-art economics related technical materials.
- Knowledge of forestry, crops and cropping systems, including orchards, vineyards, and specialty crops.
- Valid state issued driver’s license.
