Academic/Tutoring Program Specialist

Position Summary:
The Academic/Tutoring Program Specialist provides support and education to elevate students' learning experience at the University of Idaho (U of I). The Academic/Tutoring Program Specialist fosters student success by building positive and professional student relationships and implementing proactive strategies that help students fulfill their educational goals.

This position provides academic services for student-athletes through the Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) unit within Academic Support Programs. Duties include, but are not limited to: academic counseling, academic coaching of student-athletes that present academic risk factors, assisting with course registration and monitoring NCAA Progress Towards Degree. This position will also oversee all facets involved in the coordinating of the SASS tutoring program. This position maintains close liaison with U of I athletic administrators, coaching staffs, faculty, and campus academic support areas.

This position reports to the Associate Athletic Director of SASS.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree • One (1) year of demonstrated experience in a higher education setting (academic advising, student services, student affairs, student support and/or student retention efforts).
• Experience interpreting and applying standards and regulations.• Presenting information clearly and concisely to individuals, small, and large groups.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education:
• Master’s degree

Demonstrated experience: • Providing academic advising in a higher education setting.• Providing academic support to student-athletes.
• With campus or student-athlete academic support tutoring programs.

Ability to:
• Motivate, encourage, and support students to recognize their potential and meet challenges.
• Work successfully with a diverse group of people, including student-athletes, faculty, coaching staffs and administrators.• Communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

Knowledge of: • NCAA rules and regulations
