Assistant Professor of Kinesiology - Exercise Psychology

Penn State Altoona, Division of Education, Human Development, and Social Sciences invites applications for the tenure-line faculty position of Assistant Professor of Kinesiology—Exercise Psychology, to begin August 2022. The position requires a earned Ph.D. in kinesiology, exercise psychology, psychology of physical activity, or related field by the appointment start date.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge as well as a strong record of teaching in psychology of physical activity/exercise and/or health behavior change. The ideal candidate will also have an in-depth knowledge of physiology and exercise science. Candidates must be able to teach courses in the area of psychology of movement behavior, exercise psychology, as well as other courses that fit within the needs of the kinesiology degree program and the candidate's expertise.

The position requires the teaching of nine credit hours per semester, conducting original research published in peer-reviewed journals, advising and mentoring students, as well as providing related service. Each candidate should demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching, an ability to collaborate with undergraduate research and engaged scholarship, and an ability to develop upper level courses. Each candidate should demonstrate the potential for scholarly research and the ability to obtain extramural funding for their research. Finally, each candidate is expected to provide service to the to the program, division, school, university, and profession. Successful candidates will be team players who are willing to work with a faculty dedicated to ensuring the highest quality education for Altoona students while also encouraging individual growth, cultural awareness, ethical decision-making, and civic responsibility. Enthusiasm for learning and a willingness to continually develop as a teacher are critical.
