The Department of Molecular Microbiology Immunology is seeking aResearch Technologist.This position requires experience in a general laboratory setting with basic skills such as pipetting, sterile technique, operation of basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, analytical balance, and light microscope. After initial training, successful candidate will perform assays with minimal supervision. Successful candidate should possess good communication skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking. Candidate should demonstrate organization, efficiency, problem solving, resourcefulness and flexibility. The position will support core laboratory facility that specializes in flow cytometry, multiplex protein analysis and digital droplet PCR.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    Perform analyte testing in various biological sample types using MSD and Luminex format. Preparation of samples for flow cytometric assays. Flow cytometry sample acquisition. Data analysis, data entry and data interpretation. Maintenance and organization of specimen repository. Maintenance of laboratory supplies and laboratory equipment. Discuss testing results with laboratory manager, laboratory director, and core facility users.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
  • One year laboratory experience outside of coursework.
  • Knowledge of ELISA, Luminex and/or flow cytometry.
  • Laboratory experience to include basic laboratory skills and experience working with biological samples.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Working knowledge of Excel and be willing to perform reasonable job duties even if not part of the job description, as assigned by the Principal Investigator or laboratory supervisor.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required.
  • Independent and self-motivated, needing little to no supervision.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated strong, positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
