Associate Extension Specialist - FFA

Job Description

The position will work in coordination with the Youth Development through Agriculture Associate Specialist and Extension programming team to lead, organize, implement, manage, market, and evaluate youth (4H & FFA) programs, competitions, events and curriculum on the state level and offer expertise, training, and leadership to VA youth participating in State and National FFA events. The position will also assist with state FFA officer development, scheduling, delivery, and evaluating the impact of student lead leadership conferences and events. The position will assist in the planning and coordination of the professional development conferences and logistics for the Virginia Agricultural Education Instructors (VAAE). Candidate will participate fully in the policies and programs of Virginia Cooperative Extension. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, including education and experience. This is a full-time, restricted 12-month appointment. The position will be located in Blacksburg, Virginia at Virginia Tech, with periodic travel to other parts of the state, as needed to support programming efforts and events.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture related field with significant, applicable experience
• Experience leading a variety of FFA youth programs
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to work as part of a team
• Experience managing volunteers
• Must be able travel
• Must be able to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and knowledge of Positive Youth Development
• Strong writing and speaking skills
• Knowledge and aptitude for computer applications and software, including website management
