Job SummaryThe Career Development Coordinator will provide one-on-one and group career advising and coaching to undergraduate and graduate students and alumni, and is responsible for planning and coordinating the activities and operations of the career development program. Career advising and coaching will include but is not limited to self-awareness and career exploration, interpretation of career assessments, resume, curriculum vitae, and cover letter writing, mock interviews, class presentations, professional career transition topics, and job, graduate, professional school search strategies. Each Career Development Coordinator will provide career advising and coaching to students in a discipline within arts and sciences, business, education, or health sciences, assist in the implementation of the Career Planning Milestones Program, and provides data collection for the First Destination Survey.
ResponsibilitiesAdvising - 65%
Advise and coach students in one-on-one and group settings
(including workshops and class presentations) to include but not
limited to resume reviews, mock interviews, career and major
exploration techniques, administering and interpreting career
assessments, professional career transition topics, and job and
graduate school search strategies. Stay current on trends,
resources, research, and employer recruitment activities that
impact student employability.
Liaison - 15%
Serve as a liaison with assigned academic departments depending on
the discipline cluster in order to communicate programs, services,
and student needs. Communicate with academic departments on behalf
of the Career Center as needed, collaborate with academic advisors
and faculty on discipline specific advising teams, and work with
Student Life department to connect students to additional resources
to enhance their career development efforts and employability.
Special Projects - 10%
Career Development Coordinators will complete special projects as
assigned by the Assistant Director of Graduate and Preprofessional
school Planning and the Director. These projects may focus on
student outreach and marketing, departmental assessment, creating
in-house publications, specific career development initiatives such
as career/industry education, diversity/special populations
outreach and support, first/second year student outreach, student
staff training, career programs, and/or major-specific
projects.
Programming - 10%
Develop and present career development workshops and class
presentations to specific academic majors and student groups.
Assist with implementation of career fairs and other career
development programs offered by the department.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling,
or related field
Required Experience
Previous work experience in career services or related functional
area. Knowledge of career, occupational, and employment information
and trends for guiding students. Should have strong technology
skills related to the area of career counseling/advising including
career planning and assessments, job search tools and resources,
and graduate/ professional school planning (e.g., LinkedIn, Holland
Self-Directed Search, Occupational Net). Demonstrated experience
creating and presenting educational workshops/programs, building
and maintaining successful working relationships with
students/alumni, faculty/staff, and employers. Creative,
conscientious, and dedicated to providing student services in a
fair and equitable manner, and commitment to fostering a diverse
working and learning environment supportive of a public liberal
arts mission.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling,
or related field.
Preferred Experience
At least one year experience advising college students and
delivering career services programs within a higher education
environment. Ability to perform various assessments (e.g., MBTI,
StrengthsQuest,) and operate computerized career guidance systems
such as Focus2.

Abilities
Ability to use technology for conducting surveys and tracking and
monitoring student progress for completing career development
plans. Capable of multi-tasking and setting priorities within a
team environment, and able to identify, select, and implement
career coaching/advising/counseling interventions and techniques
appropriate to student goals.
Knowledge
Knowledge of employability skills, student and career development
theories and their application in practice, and career development
resources and practices.
Skills
Written and verbal communication, teaching, presentation,
interpersonal and relationship building skills, proficient in
Microsoft Office programs, and workshop/program planning.
