Department Information

The Department of Communication at Georgia College offers an integrated, cross-platform curriculum including degrees in mass communication and rhetoric, with concentrations in strategic communication, multimedia journalism, and film and television production. Community engagement, particularly through service learning in the classroom, is emphasized in the department. The Department of Communication currently has 12 full-time faculty members and approximately 300 majors, and is housed in Terrell Hall, a newly renovated building on the "front door" of the campus.

Georgia College is known for combining the educational experience of private liberal arts colleges with the affordability of public universities. The university's main campus is a residential learning community focused on undergraduate education and a select number of graduate programs. Faculty and staff are dedicated to engaging students through high impact pedagogies that foster intellectual curiosity, reasoned inquiry, and critical thinking.

Job Summary

The Department of Communication at Georgia College is hiring for a full-time temporary Spring 2022 lecturer. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to teach 12 course hours in Public Speaking, Small Group Communication, and the upper-level course in Interpersonal Communication. This position is for the Spring 2022 semester only. 


Faculty- Teaching/Instructing -
Teaching Responsibilities

  • Instructional load teaching in the areas of expertise within the academic discipline
  • Regular course meetings and instruction
  • Mentoring Students
  • Other teaching responsibilities

Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
A minimum of a master's degree in communication or a related discipline is required. 
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1. (www.sacscoc.org)

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Prior teaching experience at the University level is preferred. Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies is highly desirable. Hiring preference will be given to faculty who demonstrate an understanding of Georgia College's mission and who are enthusiastic about working closely with high-achieving students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Dynamic individual with ability to manage a communication classroom, and implement new technology and engaged learning techniques. Ability to engage non-majors in a core curriculum course.

The start date will be January 1, 2022, with an end date of May 12, 2022.
