Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) Early Childhood Education

The Department of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at the City College Center for Worker Education/CUNY invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education, to begin in Fall 2022 (subject to budgetary approval). Candidates for this position should be actively engaged in researching and teaching Early Childhood Education and have experience with teacher education.
The Department offers a BS in Early Childhood Education, an interdisciplinary BA program in Liberal Arts for working adults, and an MA in the Study of the Americas. Classes are taught in the evenings and on Saturdays. Responsibilities include teaching Early Childhood courses and directing the Undergraduate Program in Early Childhood Education. Directing the program involves planning and implementing the program curriculum, guiding teacher candidates, mentoring instructors new to higher education, and developing collaborative alliances with early childhood care and education settings for the mutual benefit of teacher candidates and cooperating sites. The BS degree is offered jointly with the City College School of Education, and the position will involve attendance at School of Education faculty meetings and data collection and analysis for accreditation bodies. The Assistant Professor will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory and other functions.

PhD or EdD in curriculum and teaching (or related field) with specialization in Early Childhood Education, a commitment to teacher education, and a demonstrated scholarship and research agenda. The successful candidate will have experience in leadership roles and program development, including knowledge of NY State and other accreditation requirements. Applicants with experience in the application of contemporary adult education pedagogies and familiarity with culturally and linguistically diverse populations especially encouraged.
