Haverford College invites applications to our available full time, exempt, benefit eligible Assistant Director of the Office of Academic Resources.

The Office of Academic Resources at Haverford College is looking for a dynamic, innovative, creative, and equity-minded practitioner prepared to join the OAR during an exciting new chapter in the history of Haverford College. The OAR plays an essential role in building an inclusive academic culture at Haverford, and as the office celebrates its tenth year we're excited about the new opportunities ahead to strengthen and expand our mission to support student agency, persistence, and success for all students at Haverford from their first semester to commencement. The assistant director will be a key leader and play an absolutely vital role in the growth and direction of the office.

Responsibilities :

Academic Coaching & Mentoring (60%)

  • Provide individualized academic coaching sessions that build upon a student's metacognitive abilities, executive functioning skills, and the academic literacies necessary to navigate the unique rigor and demands of the Haverford curriculum. Areas of specialization include, but are not limited to: academic reading strategies, time/values management, managing/overcoming procrastination, perfectionism & imposter syndrome, building academic resilience, semester planning, discipline specific learning strategies, and exam prep/ reflection/ analysis
  • Serve as a mentor, coach, and guide to high achieving students as they navigate the often complex socio-emotional aspects of navigating and succeeding at a rigorous and prestigious educational institution
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed records of all academic coaching sessions


Peer Instruction Coordination, Supervision, & Assessment (30%)

  • Recruit, hire, and provide ongoing mentoring and guidance for all peer tutors
  • Track hours, and manage budget for one-to-one peer tutoring
  • Recruit, and hire the Peer Tutor Leadership Board and collaborate to facilitate trainings, identify needs, and create community among peer tutors
  • Create innovative solutions to support high demand courses, particularly in STEM
  • Work with faculty (and students) to identify potential pathways and/or additional support structures to better support student learning, success, and persistence in their classroom
  • Collaborate closely with the OAR director, faculty, institutional research, and advancement to assess the he peer instruction program's effectiveness and impact using data-informed decision making


Program Development and Office Administration (10%)

  • Actively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through critical conversations, compassionate care, and strategic outreach efforts to various student populations in all facets of the role
  • Assist with preparation and execution of OAR events and programming, such as academic skills workshops, orientation presentations, and panel discussions
  • Maintain asense of place,within the office: an inclusive space and community of care where students can connect with peers and staff who are encouraging and supportive
  • Serve on institutional committees as needed


Qualifications :

  • Master's degree required in the field of higher education, STEM education, literacy studies, or another relevant discipline/field of study
  • At least three years of progressive experience in educational administration and promoting academic excellence and student success.
  • The successful candidate will have a commitment to equity across the college community. They will be exceptionally organized, take initiative, reliable, and attentive to detail. They will also possess strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating an attitude of resilience, patience, and humor.
