Job Summary/Basic Function

Academic Affairs is looking to hire a Director of Assessment and Accreditation to direct regional (HLC) and state (MDHE) accreditation compliance processes in collaboration with the deans and various offices. This person will lead and collaborate on campus-wide assessment efforts working closely with academic, student life, and student success colleagues to develop and implement key strategies to measure progress toward achieving student learning outcomes. This person will also revise and implement departmental policies, based on best practices and federal/state regulatory changes, to fulfill accreditation and assessment responsibilities. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a welcoming environment for a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Direct and manage the Office of Assessment and Accreditation including budgeting, procurement, maintaining departmental forms, websites, policies and federally required registries/portals (SAM, Grants.gov, FastLane, HLC Assurance System).
• Chair the University-wide Assessment Committee. Work closely with faculty, program directors, student life, and student success colleagues to develop and implement assessment initiatives to document students’ progress toward achieving learning outcomes.
• Serve as Accreditation Liaison Officer and Ombudsman to HLC by communicating policy/procedure changes to institutional authorities as is relevant, directing campus constituents to contribute to the Assurance Argument and Evidence File, collaborating with the Office of Strategic Information to share institutional data, drafting responses to HLC queries, submitting certificate and other program proposals as needed, and leading effort to complete annual update.
• Serve as liaison to MDHE for Academic Program Actions by submitting new program proposals and forms, monitoring the Board Books, attending MDHE/CBHE meetings, and verifying MDHE program inventory for updates and errors.
• Keep the VPAA, Deans and Program Directors informed of MDHE Academic Program requirements, to accurately complete required Academic Proposal forms, to provide updates on programs under review, and to offer updates on new MDHE initiatives and associated implications for the University.
• Serve as an accreditation guide and resource for the School of Adult and Online Education in the development of new programs.
• Work closely with the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Learning Design Technology and Support team to offer /lead professional development activities to faculty to build outcomes assessment initiatives into course assessments.
Other relevant information:
• Minimal travel required to state and regional meetings, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree or BA/BS degree with extensive employment experience directly related to assessment and accreditation
• Knowledge of best practices in assessing student learning outcomes, the importance of the integration of institutional and curricular assessment, and HLC and MDHE accreditation policies and procedures
• Experience in budgeting and accounting
• Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills
• Strong skills in facilitating faculty development activities relative to student learning and assessment initiatives
