Position Summary

Eastern New Mexico University invites nominations and applications for the dean of the College of Fine Arts. The dean will be an advocate for the fine arts within a liberal arts education setting and is responsible for managing academic, fiscal, physical, operational and human resources. Candidate should be able to identify and understand the needs of key constituencies including future students, current students, faculty, staff, public education, community and alumni.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and refine curriculum and assessment
  • Recruit, develop, evaluate and retain CFA faculty and staff
  • Prepare and oversee CFA budget
  • Represent the CFA at events on campus, in the region and across the state
  • Lead strategic planning
  • Develop and market academic programs
  • Establish and enhance collaborative partnerships to support the CFA mission
  • Serve as a contributing member of the Academic Affairs leadership team. Position reports to the VP for Academic Affairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • An earned terminal degree in art, communication, music, theatre, film, or a related discipline.
  • A documented record of commitment to building, supporting, and retaining outstanding faculty, staff and students; an established record of teaching, scholarship, and/or creative activity appropriate to the rank of professor. 

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • An individual with the capacity to provide vision and leadership to the CFA, and promote success in teaching, scholarly/artistic productivity, and service
  • An effective communicator with faculty, students and alumni alike, and a leader devoted to the passionate fostering of student success, both academically and professionally
  • A visionary advocate for the CFA, who builds partnerships, promotes visibility, enhances the reputation of the CFA and leads the CFA in being a major contributor to ENMU’s advancement as a university
  •  A proven administrator who respects the unique mission of each unit within the CFA and appreciates the range of faculty perspectives and expertise; a collaborator with faculty, administrators and staff across the University to accomplish ENMU’s strategic priorities
  • An individual with experience in building collaborations at the community, state and federal level, and a documented record of fundraising; as well as an active participant in local, regional and national initiatives that relate to the CFA.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission and institutional goals of a comprehensive university
  • Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures as applied to public academic institutions
  • Knowledge of office management principles and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of equal opportunity and affirmative action laws, regulations, guidelines, conventions, and procedures
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and fiscal management
  • Ability to represent the College to local, state and national agencies and constituencies
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Employee development and performance management skills
  • Project management skills and the ability to resolve complex problems and issues

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours with some evening and weekend hours
  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
