Position Summary

The Graduate School of Education ( GSE ) at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invites applications for two positions at the full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor or full-time, non-tenure, Clinical Assistant Professor rank in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program, within the Department of Counseling, School, and Educational Psychology ( CSEP ). As part of a larger initiative to address issues of race and inequity in schools and society, the GSE is actively hiring faculty across multiple disciplines with a targeted focus. The GSE is committed to fostering equity, diversity, justice, and inclusion principles through an engaged community of scholars who prioritize research, teaching, and community action that address educational, economic, social, and health disparities. Our CSEP Department includes a distinguished faculty of researchers, professional teachers, and thought leaders who strive for innovation in training and field practice to have enduring impact on the lives of individuals and communities. The Rehabilitation Counseling Program offers a practitioner-focused Master of Science degree accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs ( CACREP ).

We are seeking motivated, collaborative faculty, eager to engage with community members, and whose research, teaching, and service directly engage questions of practice related to how individuals with disabilities, particularly those from minoritized groups, achieve independence, inclusion, employment, and health. Priority status will be given to scholars who use a critical lens and demonstrate innovative approaches in transforming existing educational, work, social, and health systems to ensure the well-being of people from minoritized groups and individuals with disabilities. Ideal candidates are able to make clear connections between their research, teaching, and service, and the unique intersectional needs of people of color with disabilities.

Fundamentally, we believe in equity of opportunity, social justice advocacy, and providing holistic, integrative supports. Our program emphasizes rehabilitation counselor skill development through innovation in clinical supervision and practical experiences in interdisciplinary, integrated-health settings. We have a particular interest in early-career faculty who have a record of research and/or practice in counselor supervision, culturally-responsive interventions, and working with interdisciplinary, community-based support services.

We are looking for new faculty who have aptitude in research, teaching, and counselor supervision, and who are eligible to serve as core faculty in a CACREP accredited rehabilitation counselor training program. There is potential for secondary affiliation in the Mental Health Counseling Program. Our program includes traditional campus classes and fully-online format options, so applicants should have interest and ability in providing high quality distance instruction.

Appointments are for a ten-month academic year beginning in the Fall 2022.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications (both positions):

• Meet requirements to serve as core faculty in a CACREP accredited program. This includes identifying with the rehabilitation counseling profession and satisfying one of the following degree requirements:
  • An earned doctorate in counselor education ( ABD candidates will be considered but must meet degree requirements by August 2022).
  • An earned doctorate from a rehabilitation counselor education program prior to January 2018.
  • An earned doctorate in a closely related field combined with employment as a full-time faculty member in a rehabilitation counselor education program prior to the CACREP / CORE merger in July 2017.
• Hold a CRC certification or is eligible for the CRC .
• Demonstrate a commitment to pluralism in research, teaching, and service, including the integration of curriculum content related to equality, diversity, social justice, and inclusion.

Additional Required Qualifications: Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor Position.

• Tenure-Track Assistant Professor applicants will demonstrate a planned research trajectory that is commensurate with an early-career tenure-track assistant professor rank at a research-intensive university.

Additional Required Qualifications: Non-Tenure, Clinical Assistant Professor Position.

• Clinical Assistant Professor positions are principally teaching roles so successful applicants will have experience teaching graduate-level courses including practicum and/or internship.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications (both positions):

• Hold a doctorate in counselor education from a CACREP accredited program.
• Evidence of successful graduate-level teaching, counselor supervision, and advisement, including distance instruction.
• A record of research and/or experience in clinical supervision, culturally-responsive interventions, and/or working with interdisciplinary, community-based support services.
• Experience with mental health counseling and/or integrated-behavioral health systems.
• Familiarity with CACREP accreditation requirements.
