ATTENTION:

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a full time tenure track position at the assistant professor level in the area of visual art education beginning in the 2022-23 academic year.

JOB DETAILS:

Full time teaching responsibilities include teaching undergraduate method courses and graduate courses, supervise field experiences, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and coordinate the art education secondary licensure program. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings or on weekends. Research expectations include establishing and maintaining a research agenda related to arts education. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations and the discipline as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidate must have an earned doctorate (or defense completed by start date) in art education or closely related field. ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2022; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2023 in advance of their first scheduled review.
  • Three years of teaching in PK-12; equivalent background to qualify for a Wisconsin art education teaching license; and a potential for or an established record of scholarly activity.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Interest in art education at various grade levels as well as preparing non-arts education majors in the area of art integration that includes other art disciplines to cut across traditional curriculum boundaries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is dedicated to a democratic, just, and equitable vision of PreK-12 schools and institutions of higher education. We prepare pre-service teachers and scholar practitioners to be lifelong learners and agents of change. We challenge, engage, and inspire students through innovative transformative approaches that emphasize the diversity among learners, contemporary research, and meaningful integration of technologies.

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) houses numerous teacher preparation programs along with programs for add on licenses for certified teachers and the MSEPD (Master of Science in Education: Professional Development). Students may choose the Early Childhood Program, the Elementary/Middle School Program or a Middle/Secondary School Program. In each of the programs, students earn Department of Public Instruction (DPI) licensure.
