E-Resources & Discovery Librarian
Towson University’s Albert S. Cook Library seeks a dynamic and
innovative individual to serve as the E-Resources & Discovery

12-month faculty status position available immediately and
beginning no later than January 2022. MLS or equivalent from an
ALA-accredited institution. Familiarity with library standards
pertaining to e-resources, including serials and continuing
resources. Strong, positive interpersonal and collaborative skills;
ability to work effectively in a team environment. Excellent oral,
written and interpersonal communication skills. Commitment to

leadership and expertise in integrating, organizing and managing
the library’s electronic resources and assists the Assistant
University Librarian for Content Management with all aspects of the
life cycle of e-resources, including purchasing, licensing, access,
and maintenance of all electronic materials. The E-Resources &
Discovery Librarian works cooperatively with units across the
library to ensure that the library’s subscription databases,
e-journals and e-books are discoverable and accessible by patrons.
This librarian designs and implements library initiatives to
support student success and retention and participates in library
assessment initiatives. In addition to librarianship, library
faculty are responsible for scholarship and service; expected to
progress successfully along the promotion and permanent status
track; and participate fully as members of the library faculty.

Department of Secondary Education – 2 positions
Assistant Professor in Secondary Education
Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Secondary English Education to
teach courses to prepare middle and high school teachers in English
for grades 6-12 in the Department of Secondary and Middle School
Education (SMED) beginning August 2022. A Doctorate in English
Education or a related field. A research agenda in English
Education with a desire to develop sponsored research. Minimum of
three years classroom experience teaching English to middle or
secondary students. Is committed to engaging in service with
underrepresented populations within the discipline. The candidate
will have demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate
courses on English pedagogy at the middle and high school levels
and show evidence of scholarly potential. The candidate will
possess knowledge of practice-based approaches to teacher
education, understanding of writing teacher education program
accreditation reports for NCTE and CAEP, and the capacity for
securing external grants. This position will be assigned to teach
undergraduate and graduate courses in English Education in middle
and secondary education, work closely with interns, teachers, and
students integrating inquiry and practice in the context of
professional development schools. Courses may include English
and/or literacy courses, general methods in secondary and/or middle
school, Ethics in Education, and other courses as needed. The
candidate will be responsible for serving on college and
departmental committees. The candidate will also have an active

potential. Candidate will have knowledge of and experience in
teaching philosophy and purposes of secondary education; nature of
secondary education programs; principles of teaching and learning;
and basic techniques in instruction. Candidate will possess
knowledge of practice-based approaches to teacher education,
understanding of writing teacher education program accreditation
reports for SPA and CAEP, and the capacity for securing external
grants. This position will be assigned to teach courses in
principles in education, work closely with interns, teachers, and
students integrating inquiry and practice in the context of
professional development schools. Courses may include general
methods in secondary and/or middle school, internship courses,
Ethics in Education, method specific courses, and other courses or
supervision as needed. The candidate will be responsible for

COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION
Assistant Professor, Journalism
Department of Mass Communication
Tenure-track 10-month Assistant Professor of Journalism in the
Department of Mass Communication, beginning August 2022. Salary
will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Ph.D. in
journalism, mass communication or related field. ABD applicants
considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank and all
doctorate degree requirements must be completed by February 1,
2023. Demonstrated success or potential to teach in the
undergraduate journalism program and in the graduate communication
management program. Applicants with specialties in digital
publishing, interactive web design and development, or digital
content creation are preferred. Ability to teach cross-platform
editing and producing or social media news gathering and
distribution strategies is a plus. Demonstrate the potential to
develop a strong body of scholarship. Applicants whose work
demonstrates a commitment to issues of diversity in higher
education are particularly encouraged to apply. Research-active
faculty teach 6 classes over a 10-month academic year with
undergraduate class size averaging 20 students per class.
Undergraduate teaching may include: Digital Publishing, Multimedia
Reporting Capstone, Media Graphics, or Magazine Publishing.
Graduate teaching may include: Mass Communication and Culture,
Social Media and Content Strategy, or Mass Communication Research
Methods. Opportunities might exist to teach other courses depending
on the applicant’s area of specialty and the needs of the
department. Expected to advise undergraduate students and supervise
graduate student theses or professional projects. Scholarly
research productivity and service to the department, college, and

Department of Political Science Assistant
Professor
Tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of
Political Science beginning August 2022. Applicants with Ph.D. in
hand at the time of application will receive preference, although
ABDs may be considered if degree will be completed by the Spring of
2022. Successful applicants will possess a strong commitment to
excellence in teaching, as well as demonstrate a solid potential
for a productive scholarly program. The applicant should have a
strong methodological background. The position entails teaching the
general survey course, The Judicial System, as well as
upper-division courses such as The Supreme Court. Additionally, the
applicant should be able to develop and teach courses in Courts
& Public Policy, and Law & Society. Other responsibilities
include advising students in the major and minor, and service to
the Department, College and Institution. As the University is
striving to achieve Carnegie’s R2 status, grant-funded research is

Assistant Professor position in Criminal Justice in the Department
of Sociology, Anthropology & Criminal Justice, beginning August
2022. A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or a
related field is required. ABD applicants considered, but

requirements must be completed by February 1, 2023. Research areas
in criminal justice are open, but special consideration will be
given to applicants with teaching and research experience in the
areas of courts, sentencing, or policing. The successful candidate
will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and to
working with a diverse student population on our main campus and at
our Towson University Northeast campus in Harford County, MD. The
candidate will be required to teach a variety of undergraduate
courses in criminal justice depending on the candidate’s area of
specialty and needs of the department, including Theories of Crime
and/or Research Methods in Criminal Justice; to maintain an active
research agenda with consistent and demonstrated scholarship
activity and potential for grant-funded research; to advise
undergraduate students; and to participate actively in shared
