Assistant Professor of Fine Arts with a primary focus in Sculpture & Extended Media
Job Description
The School of the Arts, University of New Orleans invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Fine Arts with a primary focus in sculpture and extended media. This is a full-time, 9-month position, beginning the Fall semester of 2022. The University of New Orleans is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty, and the School of the Arts encourages candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education to apply.
This successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in sculpture and extended media, as well as courses in drawing and other areas of expertise as necessary. In addition, the successful candidate will play an important role in the MFA Studio Art program, engaging students in critical assessment of their work, while emphasizing historical precedents and contemporary contexts. The teaching load is 4/4, with a 2-course release to 3/3 for creative scholarship output.
The successful candidate will also maintain and develop a 4000-square foot sculpture atelier that includes equipment and areas in ceramics and woodworking, as well as a bronze and aluminum foundry. Oversight of student employees, ordering of supplies, and ensuring a safe working environment are included in atelier maintenance.
The successful candidate will have an active and vibrant exhibition record and will be prolific in their studio production, which has strong reference and practice within the contemporary art world.
Salary: $63,000.00 per year & Fringe Benefits
Minimum qualifications include: - Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art,
- Two years of teaching experience at the university
level,
- Documentation of teaching excellence and professional
accomplishments, and
- Ability to work in a collegial manner with other faculty.
Preferred qualifications could include, but are not limited to:
- Digital fabrication experience, ceramics, welding or
metalworking, woodworking, and/or fabric arts,
- Experience in working with RFPs and RFQs
- Public art, installation, site-specific works, social and/or
political engagement, performance, and
- Other experimental work with the tradition of the figure in
art
