Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice Behavior Analysis Faculty, BehaviorAnalysisSimmons

Remote - National
R07977

Located in Boston's historic Fenway area, Simmons University is a private, non-sectarian institution that has prepared women for leadership in the world through transformative education that links passion with purpose since 1899. Today, Simmons serves nearly 2,000 students in a women-centered undergraduate program and nearly 5,000 students in coeducational graduate programs. Simmons recently achieved university designation and embarked on an academic redesign to create four interdisciplinary colleges, including the College of Natural, Behavioral, and Health Sciences.

Simmons University's Masters in Behavior Analysis prepares students for leadership roles in the implementation, evaluation and administration of applied behavioral analytic principles and methods. Our innovative curriculum emphasizes contemporary research and the fusion of applied behavior analysis with other scientific fields. This allows graduates to sit for the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB) exam with no further coursework. As a part of the program, students are required to complete a practicum/supervised fieldwork experience as part of their degree program.

The Department of Behavior Analysis in the College of Natural, Behavioral, and Health Science (CNBHS) invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track, Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice within our online Masters degree program to begin January 1, 2022. Remote applicants will be considered.

We seek innovative educators and scholars with a demonstrated excellence in teaching, creative curriculum development, and knowledge of the challenges confronting Behavior Analysts today. As a University committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, we seek candidates with a demonstrated ability and a commitment to working with individuals across a broad range of social and personal identities and perspectives. Our program includes all instructional and supervised fieldwork hours needed to meet the Behavior Analysis Certification Board's (BACB®) certification exam entry requirements.

Teaching responsibilities consist of graduate courses within the broad area of preparing Masters Degree-level students to sit for and pass the national certification examination of the BACB®. The courses for the online program have been developed by current faculty within the Behavior Analysis department. This position requires that the online faculty member serve as a Section (online classroom) Instructor and Course Lead for developed courses. Course lead responsibilities involve the management and oversight of Section Instructors or fieldwork supervisors to achieve the delivery of course content and objectives. All of our online courses offer small class sizes that meet weekly in an innovative and dynamic virtual classroom, management of asynchronous content and student advising/grading. Teaching load includes serving as Section Instructor five times per year and as Course Lead four times per year or the equivalent of seven courses per year. The appointment is not on the tenure track.

General faculty responsibilities include teaching, contributing to curriculum development, and providing service to the Behavior Analysis Department and to the University. We are specifically interested in expertise in three or more of the following areas as they relate to the field of Behavior Analysis: behavioral service delivery; teaching pedagogy; theoretical and conceptual issues in Behavior Analysis; and teaching applied and basic research. Contract faculty are not required or expected to conduct research in this role, however, a candidate with background in conducting, overseeing, presenting, and publishing applied and basic research is preferred.

Qualifications include:
  • A preference will be given to applicants who hold a doctoral degree in Behavior Analysis, but applicants who will complete doctoral degree requirements by the start date will be considered.
  • Current Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA/BCBA-D®) for a minimum of 5+ years required;
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education outside of Simmons University preferred;
  • Meets Behavior Analyst Certification Board standards for providing supervision required;
  • Publications or presentations of research preferred;
  • Ability to travel to Boston periodically
