Job Summary:
As a key member of the Director of Athletics' Executive Leadership Team, the Senior Associate AD for External Affairs will assist the department in providing strong vision, leadership, management, coordination and oversight of athletics external operations. This position will report to the Director of Athletics.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to oversight of athletics revenue generation, marketing, communications, promotions, game day experience, athletics ticket sales, corporate partnerships, licensing and branding with a focus on Greenville and Upstate South Carolina. - Athletics Marketing and Promotions; Game Day

- Coordinates the vision and strategic planning for all external
initiatives
- Drives strategy to increase attendance to home athletics
contests with emphasis on revenue sports
- Serves as the primary liaison between Furman Athletics'
multimedia rights holder, guiding partnership strategy and
maximizing revenue opportunities for the institution
- Ensures communication between all external units conducting
meetings to ensure seamless coordination across all
areas
- Works with University Communications and University Advancement
in an effort to grow community relations and engage with
Greenville, Upstate South Carolina and a national
audience.
- Designs and implements a strategy to strengthen and grow Furman
Athletics' brand in the community, region, and
nationwide
- Implements creative and innovative approach to revenue
generation in coordination with other areas and key stakeholders on
campus
- Works collaboratively with the Associate AD - Finance,
Facilities and Operations and the Sr. Associate AD/Executive
Director of Athletics Development to develop and fund capital
projects and expand game day experience for donors
- Works collaboratively with the Associate AD - Finance,
Facilities and Operations on contractual agreements regarding
television, radio and multi-media rights
- Strengthens relationships with Furman alumni, parents and
friends to enhance support for athletics programs
- Represents the athletics department at public events when the
Director of Athletics cannot attend
- Oversees strategy to engage fans and drive excitement during
postseason competition
- Creates plans to ensure Furman Athletics is prepared to respond
in any situation (i.e. capitalizing on big wins, postseason runs,
crisis management)
Relationships:
Position requires extensive interaction with campus, donors, alumni and friends of the University utilizing a variety of communication methods through direct face-to-face contact, events and other relationship building opportunities for the purpose of driving revenue, cultivating relationships, driving attendance, strengthening branding and meeting departmental goals.
Responsibility for Final Decisions:
Tasks involve interpretation of data and/or procedures to address problems or situations that are not clearly defined. Work involves non-routine/diverse work not defined by procedures.
Errors may cause serious delays in work and decision-making, having important effects on organizational regulations or external relationships
Reports To:
Director of Athletics
Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure, or request for exception is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential for interaction with colleagues, coaches, donors, trustees,
students, alumni, parents and friends of Furman University.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.
Self-confidence, strong organizational skills, and effective time management skills are essential.
Ability to effectively represent the University and to work effectively in a team environment with a mix of alumni and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 5 years of managerial experience and proven leadership in college athletics with emphasis on experience driving revenue. Working knowledge and exposure to the best practices of college athletics and fundraising.
True leadership ability as well as imagination, innovation and creativity.
A keen ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with President, Trustees, AD and leadership team.
Confidence in delivering presentations to small and large groups
Must be willing to work as a leader of an energetic team
Must adhere to the stated principles of Furman Athletics and acquire an appreciation for Furman
University history and aspirations as one of the nation's leading liberal arts institutions.
Commitment to customer service and high touch interaction with Furman University constituents.
Must maintain attention to detail
