Primary Purpose of Position:
The purchasing specialist guides assigned departments in procurement of goods and services helping to determine the most advantageous purchasing strategy utilizing a total cost or lifetime cost of procurement while abiding by applicable federal, state and university policies. Different roles a purchasing specialist may play include requisition processing, supplier entry. inventory control, contracting, solicitations, negations and working with campus stakeholders in all manners of procurement.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree; or Associate’s degree and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate should possess a working knowledge of SciQuest and Ellucian Banner; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Applications; Familiarity working in a University or state government position. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with excellent customer service skills; great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.
