Preschool Mental Health Consultant - Hourly

JOB SUMMARY:

This opportunity is for a master's-level licensed mental health worker with knowledge of early childhood development to provide external mental health consultation to childcare/early education centers in Suffolk County. The Consultant will provide a minimum of monthly contact with each assigned center, supporting learning and best reflective practices for staff, and when necessary, backing up the internal Mental Health Consultant in the work with children and families. This is a part-time position as a member of a team, working from 10 to 20 hours per week (maximum 40%FTE). This position is contingent upon contractual agreements between Adelphi and the centers' network.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director/Director

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Consultant Core Competencies Include Knowledge of:
  1. Infant and Early Childhood Development, Mental Health, and Early Care and Education (ECE)
  2. Engagement, Relationship Building, and Collaboration with center personnel
  3. Observation, Screening, and Data Collection Skills
  4. Technical Assistance: Action Plan Development and Strategy Implementation
  5. Community Systems, Partnerships, and Resources
  6. The Consultative Role: Professional Standards and Reflective Practice
  7. Show flexibility and comfort working in school environments
  8. Demonstrate understanding of early childhood mental health consultation as building the mental health capacities of caregivers, families, and others who care for young children.
  9. Integrate the principles of the consultative stance in providing services.

REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
  1. Knowledge of infant and early childhood development
  2. Knowledge of infant and early childhood care and education
  3. Empathic listener demonstrating cultural humility
  4. Ability to engage with diverse providers of early childhood care
  5. Observe and uphold ethical standards
  6. Computer proficiency, including use of distance learning platforms
  7. Maintain required records for data collection and provide data in a timely manner
  8. Telehealth and/or remote work when recommended and/or required
  9. Bilingual Spanish/other languages a plus
  10. Pass health and background checks required by governing authorities
  11. Have active malpractice insurance

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Licensed Mental Health Provider.

HOURLY RATE:

This is an hourly position not to extend beyond June 30, 2022 and to be reimbursed at the hourly rate of $40.00 for a maximum of 20 hours per week for a minimum of twelve weeks according to the agreed-upon scope of work within each consultant's agreement with Adelphi University Institute for Parenting. This position is wholly contingent upon contractual agreements.
