Basic Function:
This is a pool to fill part-time instructor positions for the Spring 2011 semester.
The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in registered nursing courses to a student population that is highly diverse in terms of academic preparation, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds as well as physical and learning abilities. Provide instruction as a member of the nursing team to students in classroom and/or clinical laboratory areas; participate in the development and evaluation of curriculum and in the development of instructional material; utilize a variety of teaching methods which will promote the attainment of desirable goals by each student; establish effective working relationships with personnel from service agencies and assist in the liaison between several different community healthcare agencies and the college; assist in planning activities for the evaluation of students in both the classroom and laboratory experiences; participate in faculty and agency meetings and student activities; This assignment may includes teaching at off-campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distant learning and multiple teaching methodologies.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
Must meet the following qualifications set by the Board of Registered Nursing and the Bureau of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians:
- A valid, active license as a California Registered Nurse;
AND - Have obtained from an accredited college a Master’s degree in
nursing; OR
- Have obtained from an accredited college a Baccalaureate degree
in nursing and a Master’s degree, which shall include course
work in nursing, education, or administration; OR
- Have obtained from an accredited college a Baccalaureate degree
in nursing and enrollment in an accredited college for a
Master’s degree which shall include course work in nursing,
education, or administration, with a scheduled completion date
before or during the 2013-2014 academic year.
AND - At least two year’s continuous, full-time experience in direct
patient care practice as a Registered Nurse within the last 5 years
or equivalent experience, as determined by the Board of Registered
Nursing. Note: As a condition of employment, if the applicant does
not meet the patient care practice requirement, he/she must be
willing to undertake a mutually agreed upon remediation plan.
AND - Shall have or be willing to complete (within 6 months of hire)
a course in teaching offered by an accredited school;
AND - Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider
Card;
AND - Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic,
socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with
disabilities;
AND - Successful completion of a drug/alcohol screening before a
final job offer can be made;
AND - Successful approval by the Board of Registered Nursing and Bureau of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406).

- Maintain a course outline for each assigned course.
- Keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and
scholastic progress.

- Provide current course orientation materials including syllabus
and course outline to each student.
- Use media aids, the library and other resources as
appropriate.
- Maintain currency in subject matter and/or service
area.
- Communicate with students and staff in a professional
manner.
- Demonstrate versatility in instructional methodology and
versatility in serving a diverse student population.
- Be familiar with and observe appropriate board policies and
contractual agreements.
- Commitment to student learning.
- Awareness of the College mission, vision, and
values.
- Sensitivity to students with a wide range of skills,
motivations, and academic goals.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in
writing.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to experiment using
multimedia instructional materials.
- Commitment to working effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes teaching, learning and service students.
- Master’s degree or higher which includes course work in nursing
and education.
- Experience teaching nursing at a community college.
- Clinical expertise with certifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with students,
colleagues, and others.
- Experience and competency working with and integrating
computers, multi-media and computerized software as part of the
teaching/learning process.
- An understanding of the advantages and challenges of developing
a nursing program in a small, rural community college.
- Ability to deliver instruction using strategies designed for
diverse learning styles.
- Ability to design learning objectives and assess learning
outcomes.
- Willingness to work with students having a wide range of skills, motivation, and academic or vocational goals, as well as cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds
