Prospect Research Coordinator, Intermediate

New Mexico State University (NMSU), New Mexico’s flagship
land-grant and space-grant institution, and the NMSU Foundation
seek a highly-collaborative, thoughtful, and entrepreneurial
professional to serve as Prospect Research Coordinator,
Intermediate. The Prospect Research Coordinator will join a
dedicated advancement team, contributing to the Foundation’s
growth, and will play a critical role in identifying opportunities
to support NMSU community impact, especially for students and
faculty. Assists with the coordination of activities related to the
identification, research and tracking of University donor
prospects. Participates in research activities including data
collection, evaluation and analysis. Will work with other
Foundation staff to ensure prospects and donors are best served in
their pursuit of helping the NMSU Aggie family reach their fullest

For the NMSU community, private philanthropic support is vital
to increased accessibility. The recently-completed Ignite Aggie
Discovery Campaign, the largest in the university’s history, raised
over $125 million across three distinct pillars – student
discovery, faculty and staff discovery, and NMSU achievement. Of
the total, $39 million was dedicated for student support, and $56
million was raised for programmatic and research support. With an

Required Education & Experience
The position requires a bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of
direct prospect research experience or three years of professional
experience related to the standard duties as outlined.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Engage in first level prospect research which evaluates and
analyses research data which is then checked by senior
- Takes primary research data and develops narratives or
summaries for development officers to aid in fundraising
- Works with senior researcher to deliver portfolio assignments
to annual giving and development officers. Will begin training to
develop more comprehensive reports under the direction of the
- Assists with final prospects list by organizing the
identification, screening and rating of potential donors to the
- Analyzes data to support Advancement strategies; organizes and
manages data to facilitate decision-making and prospect
- Answers questions where possible as it relates to training to
users of specialized database software.
- Completes repackaging assignments which includes putting
together information for honorary degree nominations and
- Provides input to improve tracking systems that allows
reporting on prospect activity.
- Under the direction of senior researcher identifies new
foundations and corporations that might fit various University
- Assists to improve research strategies and techniques.
- Assists in assigning, coordinating, and reviewing research on
individuals, corporations and foundations using a wide variety of
original source material including public documents, legal records,
periodicals, computer databases, professional organizations,
professional contacts and the Internet.
- Participates in the maintenance of prospect lists and tracking
- Serves as resource to staff, development directors for
information relating to the research of prospects.
In addition to the abilities to achieve the above core
responsibilities, ideal candidates will possess the following
qualification and attributes:
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of prospect
- Knowledge of on-line internet searching.
- Knowledge of Windows based software.
- Knowledge of the ethics statement of the Association of
Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
- Basic skill in coordinating the work of others, leading to a
more advanced skill.
- Skill in making wise and creative decisions to present to the
- Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to summarize research data reports.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
