Emporia State University invites applications for an instructor position in the Department of Elementary Education/Early Childhood/Special Education located in Emporia, Kansas area with the potential to teach on our distance sites in Andover or Kansas City. The appointment will commence in August, 2022. The successful applicant will work with the Professional Development School Program and teach within the Elementary Education Department.

Position Summary:

The successful applicant will have education and related professional experience to teach a variety of undergraduate courses (i.e., classroom management, differentiation, general curriculum and instruction, science methods, math methods, social studies methods, ethics and law, and/or introduction to the elementary education major) incorporating the latest strategies and methodologies. Other teaching responsibilities may be assigned based on the education and professional experience of the candidate.

The instructor will supervise student teachers in Professional Development Schools and work closely with the USD partnership administration team on all district business. Service to the Department, The Teachers College, and University is required. The instructor will actively recruit students for the Elementary Education program at Emporia State University.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in an elementary education field
  • Five or more years of successful K-6 teaching experience in an accredited school
  • Current teaching license at K-6 level, or previously held a valid K-6 teaching license
  • Training in research-based approaches to teach and assess elementary methods courses
  • Outstanding collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching at the college level including elementary methods courses
  • Experience supervising and/or mentoring preservice teachers in field experiences
  • Background in teaching mathematics, science, social studies, and/or literacy to students at the K-6 grade levels
  • Understanding of Social Emotional Skills taught at the K-6 levels
  • Understanding of Professional Development Schools Model
