The University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) Teacher Education Department seeks a qualified individual at the Associate Level (Assistant level with strong potential will be considered) to serve as the LaVonne Plambeck Endowed Chair and provide leadership/ direction in the Early Childhood and Elementary I Montessori graduate and undergraduate program options (with future expansions to Infant Toddler and Elementary II), as well as supporting the development of the Montessori classrooms/teachers in the campus’s Early Childhood Education Center (lab school), and corresponding training site.

Primary responsibilities include: (1) teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the area of the candidate’s expertise, and potentially, Montessori courses, (2) providing supervision and supports to students in practicum sites, (3) facilitating Montessori-based interests of UNK faculty at the Early Childhood Education Center and supporting the Montessori teachers and curriculum, (4) supporting and maintaining Montessori accreditation and (5) encouraging collaborative efforts and outreach with state, national, and international Montessori programs, schools, and entities. Responsibilities also include serving on departmental, college, and university committees, contributing meaningfully to departmental, college, campus and university-wide areas of service, and showing evidence of scholarly accomplishments and the ability to support a Montessori-based research agenda in one’s area of expertise.

Required Qualifications:

(1) Doctorate in Education or a related field (ABD’s considered), (2) have a minimum of three years of successful Montessori teaching and /or directorship, Early Childhood or Elementary Education teaching, (3) have AMS certification, and has or has held state teaching certification . Must meet university criteria for their rank.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant and successful university teaching experience, including graduate level teaching and field supervision; experience in online course delivery or willingness to develop this skill; experience in directing or working in a university-based Teacher Education Program; experience with interdisciplinary collaboration in service or research; and national/international experience with Montessori certification or willingness to develop this skill.
