Title V Grant – Caminos al Éxito: Pathways to Success


Caminos al Éxito: Pathways to Success is a cooperative grant agreement between Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) and Wright College, funded by Title V. Key personnel at NEIU include the Primary Principal Investigator (PI) and Project Director. The partnership’s project initiatives are aimed at improving the academic support structures for low-income, first generation students from diverse backgrounds by expanding services in financial literacy, student support, and transfer pathways.

Reporting to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs or the Dean of Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center, the Director – Student Development Projects functions as the project administrator at Wilbur Wright College, administering the Title V grant provisions and ensuring all aspects of the grant’s contractual requirements are adhered to and in compliance with reporting requirements, in collaboration with key college stakeholders and NEIU grant partners.

The Director – Student Development Projects oversees staff and directs activities associated with the college’s commitment to the grant’s objectives, manages budget expenditures, and participates in pursuing additional/new funding sources to sustain established structures.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements work plans, oversees the work of project staff, and ensures data collection and reporting to effectively monitor progress of initiatives and ensure established objectives are successfully met and accomplished.
  • Serves as a liaison with NEIU and Chicago Public Schools (CPS) representatives on grant funded operations including services and programs provided to students targeted by the grant.
  • Oversees project staff serves as a resource to college administrators and staff from feeder high schools, ensuring that the grant’s scope of services to targeted students is effectively provided and that reporting requirements are fully met.
  • Works in close collaboration with outreach staff and other key stakeholders to connect with high school students and expand access to Wright College through targeted engagement and information campaigns, summer acceleration programs, and peer mentorship.
  • Works collaboratively with Advising and Transition, Financial Aid, and Wellness Center to implement programs to support students’ first year success, early goal-setting and academic success; provides financial planning/literacy workshops; and creates programs to support well-being of student cohorts.
  • Coordinates work efforts with college administrators and NEIU partners to enhance the transfer pathway between Wright College and NEIU, utilizing the established guaranteed and dual admission (GDA) agreement.
  • Participates in meetings and maintains frequent communication with NEIU’s project director to ensure alignment of activities to achieve stated outcomes.
  • Manages and is accountable for the monitoring and tracking of grant expenditures. Reviews procurement requests and ensures costs are allowable under grant.
  • Prepares various reports including project status, evaluation of support services, and budget expenditure reports in response to grant requirements.
  • Participates in researching and developing funding proposals to obtain new and additional funding to support existing programs and new initiatives.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Public Administration, Social Work, or a related field required.
  • Experience in administering a program(s) for a non-profit, social services, government or educational organization.
  • Experience working with Hispanic and low-income populations required.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing budgets and supervising staff.
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the needs of low income, first generation students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Bilingual/Bicultural Spanish/English required.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills.


Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within six (6) months of hire.
