Job Description
The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hartford invites applications for the tenure-track Philip D. Feltman Professor of Modern Jewish History position in the Department of Judaic Studies. The successful candidate will also join the Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies, which offers a series of robust public programs each semester and maintains an active role in the Greater Hartford community. The College expects to make an appointment at the Assistant Professor level. There may be an option for more experienced candidates to request a shortened probationary period.

Essential Job Duties
The successful candidate will teach 6 undergraduate courses per year, both introductory and advanced (including core courses for the major). Preference will be given to candidates working outside the field of American Jewish history, including, but not limited to the fields of modern European Jewish history, Mediterranean and Sephardic Studies, Latin American Jewish History, or Middle Eastern Studies. There will be also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. There may also be an opportunity to direct the Museum of Jewish Civilization.As a member of the faculty, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in a research program leading to publication appropriate to the discipline. In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to participate in departmental and school committees, advise students, contribute to a culture of inclusion and campus diversity, and contribute to student recruitment and retention. Applicants should describe in their letter of intent how their teaching and scholarship contributes to diverse communities.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctoral or other terminal degree in Judaic Studies or a related field at the time of appointment (August 16, 2022), and a promising record of scholarly and or creative accomplishment. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of excellence in college-level classroom teaching.
